Kinzua Soccer Club tryouts

Kinzua Soccer Club’s fall season tryouts will be held, rain or shine, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at the North State St. entrance on the Warren State Hospital grounds. Interested players with birthdates between August 1, 2000, and July 31, 2006, are eligible.

The make-up date will be 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 21.

All participants must wear soccer cleats and shin guards.

Kinzua Soccer Club is a travel league with games played on Sundays around northwestern Pennsylvania. Prior soccer experience is recommended.

College news

The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) baseball team wrapped up the 2014 season by sweeping the College at Brockport on Friday in a pair of non-conference contests. The Tigers took game one, 5-2, and won a rain-shortened game two, 11-3 in five innings. RIT finishes the season with a 19-16 record, while Brockport is 25-16. It is RIT’s first winning season since 2008.

In game one, Warren Area High School graduate Tyler Leichtenberger, a senior, threw 10 pitches to record his sixth save of the season and school-record 14th of his career. He finishes the season at 3-3 with a team-low 2.22 ERA over 28 1/3 innings, striking out 21 and walking seven.

Chautauqua trap

Randolph edged Carroll, 344-342, and Celoron outshot Busti, 341-333, this week in the Chautauqua County Trap League. Perfect 50’s were recorded by Howard Arnold and Kim Milford of Randolph; Ed McCullough, Dennis Corey, and John Pearson of Carroll, and; Vern Brown of Celoron. This was Corey’s first 50 straight.

Kinzua soccer

The Kinzua Flatt U12 boys soccer team defeated Greensburg, 8-2, on Sunday. A.J. Seyler, John Page and Ethan Massa each scored a goal for Kinzua, Devon Navaroli scored two goals, and Ryon Flatt three goals in the win.

Caleb Lindell, Damon Navaroli and Darren Glotz each recorded an assist. Mitch Grosch displayed great ballhandling both offensively and defensively, and Luke Smelko, Seyler and Page minimized Greensburg scoring opportunities. Thomas Bablak and Smelko were the winning keepers.
