Dollar General being built outside borough

A Dollar General store is coming to Sugar Grove Township.

Bulldozers for Sugar Grove DDP IX LLC are clearing nearly two acres of land on Jackson Run Road. The store, which will be the fourth in Warren County, has a late-August opening date, according to a Dollar General spokesman.

Records at the Warren County Courthouse show a sale of 1.82 acres of land from James W. Gourley to Sugar Grove DDP IX LLC for $138,272 on April 17.

The nearly two-acre site had to be approved for a subdivision with the county zoning office, apply for sewage permits through the Sugar Grove Area Sewer Authority, a building permit through BIU, and a highway occupancy permit through PennDOT.

The store will employ between six to 10 people, according to the company spokesman.

A zoning request for a property along Big Tree Road in Sugar Grove Borough was denied by the Warren County Commissioners in January 2013. The request was to split four acres of a 14.7 acre lot from residential and agriculture, commercial, residential to business transitional. The possibility of installing storage units or retail opportunities including a possible Dollar General store were discussed at a Warren County Planning and Zoning Commission meeting in November 2013.
