The 10th annual Scandia Chainsaw carve will be held May 9-10 at Red Oak Campground. Chainsaw artists from all over are planning to attend this benefit for the Scandia Volunteer Fire Department.
Carve hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, with the carve auction at 2 p.m. Saturday.
“Come witness the magic as life size animals, birds and other objects come to life with the slice of a chainsaw and the skilled hands of the chainsaw artists,” said coordinator Stephanie Ferrie. “Try out the massive benches and select beautiful garden ornaments for you home, business or landscape.”
Artists will begin carving on Friday at 10 a.m. and continue working until 6 p.m. Carvers will be working on pieces for the corporate sponsors of the event, as well as pieces for the auction. Also on Friday at 5 p.m. there will be a quick carve, where a carving will be created in just 30 minutes. There also will be two quick carves on Saturday, one at 10 a.m. and the other at 1 p.m. In between the two quick carves, there will be a hot saw demonstration done by local loggers. To end the event on Saturday, the 2 p.m. auction will be led by local auctioneer Jamie Sitler. People may register for the auction anytime Saturday, and items can be purchased with credit card or cash
Carvers also will have carvings available for purchase throughout the event both Friday and Saturday. There will be crafters/vendors, pull tabs and a bake sale and Chinese auction. Food will also be available both days. Friday and Saturday there will be food at the campground store and also hot dogs, chips and pop at the Scandia tent. On Saturday begining at 11 a.m., Russell Volunteer Fire Department will have a chicken barbecue.
This event is enjoyable for the entire family, Ferrie said. If you have any questions, call Ferrie at 757-8134 or visit our website at www.scandiavfd.org.
