Warren, Sheffield sweep; Youngsville girls win

Warren’s track and field teams wrapped up their Region 3 dual meet schedule with a sweep of Oil City Tuesday at War Memorial Field.

The boys were 91-50 winners over the Oilers to improve to 5-1 overall, and the girls won 85-55 to even their record at 3-3.

Senior Tanner Rosenberg took first in four events, and broke the school-record in the 400 with a time of 50.37. He also won the 800 and took part in the winning 4-by-800 relay and 4-by-400 relay.

Two of Rosenberg’s teammates in the 4-by-400 – Kyle Kulka and Ryan Shattuck – won individual events as well. Kulka ran a personal best 23.7 to win the 200-meter dash, and Shattuck took first in both the 110 and 300 hurdles.

Freshman distance runner Blake Ristau’s time of 4:48.50 in the mile was good for first place and qualified him for districts, Ryan Gorgacz won the 100-meter dash and long jump, and Devin Nowacki picked up wins in the high and triple jump.

“It was just an overall good day today,” said boys’ coach Steve Norris. “I’m proud of the kids. We won every track race and got points from our throwers; (Geoff Stewart) had big points in the discus and just missed qualifying for districts.”

For the Lady Dragons, Casey Kulka was a three-time winner in the 100, 200, and 4-by-100, and Katlyn Adams won the 400, long jump, and also ran part of the 4-by-100.

Other individual first-place finishes for the girls went to McKenzie Merenick in the triple jump, Tori Paris in the high jump, Nikki Atkins in shot, and D.J. Hahn in the javelin.

Warren’s 4-by-400 relay of Rachel Lasecki, Amy Castagnino, Lindsay Onuffer, and Paris won with a time of 4:48.54.

“We’ve moved kids around throughout the season and every time they step up to the plate,” said girls’ coach Mark Sweet. “Everyone does what they can to help out. That’s three wins in a row that we’ve had, and that’s a good way to go into the county meet.”

The Warren County Track Meet is on Thursday at Sheffield High School. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

SHEFFIELD BOYS 69, OSWAYO 65

Sheffield’s boys and girls track teams both swept a tri-meet against Northern Potter and Oswayo Valley.

“We did very well,” said Sheffield girls coach Jenelle Johnson, whose team of nine “picked up a lot of key points.”

She said “it’s always fun” to go up against a similar size school, to have a chance in the team result.

Last week, Smethport for example, had 32 members of its girls track team, which all but guarantees a loss for Sheffield.

The Lady Wolverines won 73-44 over Oswayo Valley and 77-47 over Northern Potter.

Morgan Leichtenberger finished first in long jump against both teams in 15-3 1/4 feet, and qualified for districts. She also placed first in the triple jump and 100 hurdles against both opponents.

Emily Grove, a freshman, was first against both teams in the 200, and Brittant Fritz first in the shot. Jen Isenberg won the javelin in 106-6, and Erica Isenberg won the high jump.

Another freshman, Claire Pierson, was first in the 300 hurdles against Oswayo Valley.

Sheffield earned the win with seconds and thirds.

The 4×100 relay team of Leichtenberger, Jen Isenberg, Morgan Hoffman and Julia Vile also finished first.

“It’s nice to get a couple wins,” said Sheffield boys coach Brian Moldovan, whose Wolverines won 69-65 over Oswayo Valley and 79-46 over Northern Potter.

“Kyle Corbin… had good run times and good jumps,” said Moldovan. “And that Adam Higby kid again!”

Higby won the long jump, triple jump and high jump against both teams, and Corbin won the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Sheffield’s 4×100 relay also won.

TITUSVILLE 95, YOUNGSVILLE BOYS 54

TITUSVILLE – Youngsville split with Titusville in a Region 4 track meet on Tuesday, winning the girls’ meet by a score of 83-63 and losing the boys’ meet, 95-54.

“I had a pretty good feeling we’d win today but didn’t think we’d dominate the track like we did,” said Youngsville girls coach John Victor.

“It was just a good overall team effort,” he said. “The girls stepped up and took the seconds and thirds where we needed them. We won every event on the track (71-16) and they are very strong in throwing.”

The Lady Eagles received first-place points from Mallory Eastman in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, Kimmie Lindstrom in the 100 and 200, Brooke Messinger in the 1600 and 3200, and Leigh Fehlman in the 400 and 800.

Andy Lalwani won the 110 hurdles for the boys, Jake Lauffenburger took first in the 400, Matt Fox won the 200, and Nathan Wilcox won the shot put.

Youngsville will next compete at the Warren County Track Meet Thursday at Sheffield High School.

IROQUOIS 105, EISENHOWER GIRLS 45

IROQUOIS 100, EISENHOWER BOYS 50

LAWRENCE PARK-The Eisenhower Lady Knights track team was defeated 105-45 by Iroquois on Tuesday, but came away with “a lot of personal bests” according to head coach Mike Logue.

Emily McJunkin reached 5’0″ in the high jump, which actually tied for first, but was recorded as second place as it took her three attempts to reach the mark while Iroquois’ Olsen reached it in two attempts.

Holly Chapman (31’6″) and Kate Daugharthy (30’0″) both qualified for Districts in the triple jump. Chapman also set a personal best in the long jump, as did Nikki Dubyne. Sidney Wallin took first place in the pole vault at a height of 7’6″.

The Eisenhower boys’ track team suffered a 100-50 loss, but didn’t come away from the meet without any positives.

Devin VanGuilder was a three-time winner for the Knights, winning the 1600, 3200, and running a leg in the winning 3200-meter relay team. Tim Lange was a two-time winner, winning both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. Lange’s time of 16.33 seconds in the 110 hurdles was a personal best. Jason Adams posted a district-qualifying time in the 300 hurdles as well.

“Several of our guys had good days,” said Eisenhower head coach David Bauer. “Iroquois has a pretty strong team. They have around twice as many guys as we do. The score was actually pretty close on the track, but we fell behind in the field events. It was really nice to see Jason Adams qualify in the 300 hurdles, and several of our guys are really close to qualifying for districts. Hopefully we can accomplish that Thursday at the County Meet.
