Eagles top Rocky Grove

Youngsville used a six-run sixth inning and a great pitching performance from Bryce Sherrard to defeat Rocky Grove 8-1 in a non-region baseball game on Tuesday at Davis Street Field.

The Eagles led throughout the game, scoring in both the first and second innings to permanently take the lead. Sherrard stifled the Oriole offense throughout the game, allowing only five hits and a singular run in the fourth inning.

The Eagle bats gave Sherrard some breathing room in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring six runs to increase the lead to seven.

“We battled,” said Youngsville coach Wayne Marino. “Everybody played well. We had four errors in the field, but they weren’t crucial. Their pitcher threw a lot of curveballs, and once we seemed to figure him out in the sixth we jumped on him.”

Sherrard also was a key part of Youngsville’s offense, going two-for-four with a run batted in. Tyler Lehman was also two-for-four with a run batted in, and Levi Hendrickson had a double and two runs batted in.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 4-7 on the season. They will return to action on Wednesday, when they host Region 4 opponent Franklin for their third game in three days.
