Alzheimer’s walk planned

Plans continue for the Warren Area Walk to End Alzheimer’s Disease. Recently, Laurie Sheriff, Beatrice Nuhfer and Linda Knapp of the Warren area committee for the walk participated in National Training in Harrisburg. The purpose of this multi-chapter training for the walk is to help lead our communities to a world without Alzheimer’s. Topics addressed included securing community sponsors, volunteer committee structure, retention of teams, recruitment of new teams, planning timeline for the walk, and fundraising ideas.

Locally, the committee is contacting prospective corporate, community and business sponsors for the walk. Teams from the 2013 walk are being contacted to sign up and continue their support for 2014. Goals have been set, hoping to increase in all areas: fundraising, number of teams/participants, and the amounts collected from sponsors. New teams are being formed and all teams may sign up online at (act.alz.org/warrenpa2014) or obtain a team registration packet from a committee member. Not all volunteers must be walkers. Many others are needed to serve on the walk planning committee and to help at the event on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Betts Park in Warren. Call Sheriff at 726-0820 for further information, sponsor and team packets, or to volunteer.

The next committee meeting will be on Thursday, May 29, at noon at the Harbor Church, 135 Conewango Ave., Warren. Lunch will be provided.
