Eagles win on ‘walk’ off

Senior left fielder James Frazier drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Youngsville a 7-6 win over Iroquois in a Region 4 game Friday at Davis Street Field.

The Eagles trailed 6-3 to start the seventh when Bryce Sherrard singled to lead off the inning. Tyler Lehman followed up with a double, and Thomas Henry knocked in Sherrard with a single to make it a two-run game.

Sophomore shortstop Tanner Humphrey tied it at six with a two-RBI double – his second of the day – before Alex Johnson drew a base on balls and Jake Marino was intentionally walked to load the bases.

Frazier’s walk forced in Humphrey, and the Eagles improved to 3-6 overall and 3-2 in Region 4.

“We’re in the hunt,” said Youngsville coach Wayne Marino. “It’s between us and Eisenhower in (Region 4 Class A). If we’d have lost we’d have been pretty much done. Now it’s in our hands.”

Lehman led the Eagles at the plate with three hits, Henry and Humphrey each had two, and Marino had one hit in addition to being intentionally walked twice.

Aaron Hoover tossed a complete game to earn the win for Youngsville, which hosts Titusville on Monday in another important region game.

Warren went 3-0 in Region 7 games this week and remains tied atop the region in the loss column with Harbor Creek.

On Friday, a three-run bottom of the fourth broke a Region 7 game open with Corry, with Warren holding on for a 7-5 win.

“”We fought through (the week),” said Warren coach Rick Eaton, whose Dragons are 8-3 overall and 5-1 in the region. Harbor Creek also entered the day in the Class AAA region at 5-1. “Today, our defense kind of let us down, but we scored enough runs to win it.”

Tanner Stanz started the scoring with an RBI triple in the first, Collin Fantaskey’s RBI single scored Derek Reagle in the second, and Reagle’s RBI single in the third made it 3-0 Warren.

Up 3-2 in the fourth, Todd Fasenmyer doubled and Fantaskey knocked him in. Austin Schwanke tripled in Fantaskey, and Stanz double in Schwanke.

Two of Warren’s six errors came in a three-run seventh for Corry (5-4, 3-4), but Warren held on for the win.

Fantaskey finished 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, Stanz 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Reagle 2-for-3 with a run and RBI.

GUYS MILLS – Shane Arford’s two-run single in a four-run first started out an 11-5 non-region win over Maplewood.

Ike stole nine bases and scored in five of the first six innings.

“The bottom of the order… they are seeing the ball better, being patient (at the plate),” said Ike coach Cody Vincent.

Ike also played well defensively, he said, especially in a rain-soaked infield.

“Chase Elmquist stepped in a played a good first-base, and you couldn’t ask for more from a freshman stepping in there,” said Vincent, who was missing a couple of players from the lineup.

Arford finished 2-fr-4 with two runs and three RBI, Kyle Hunt 3-for-3 with four runs, and Elmquist added two RBI.
