Gymnastics

Warren County’s Jesse Valone and Sarah Inman recently competed for Stroup’s Gymnastics (N.Y.) at the Elmira (N.Y.) Spring Fling held in Horseheads, N.Y. Inman is a Level 2 and scored 8.35 on vault, 7.65 on bars, 8.25 on beam, 6.75 on floor and 31.0 all-around. Valone placed second on bars in the Diamond Xcel division with 7.60 and first on vault (8.95), beam (9.50), floor (9.35) and all-around (35.35).

Valone also competed at the Spring Graffiti Invitational March 22 and 23 in Lancaster, N.Y. and took first in every event, including vault (8.575), bars (8.00), beam (9.30), floor (9.35) and all-around (35.225).

College news

Youngsville High School graduate Corey Craig gave up three earned runs (six total) in five innings (71 pitches) in California University of Pa.’s 12-0 loss Sunday against Seton Hill.

Craig finished 4-5 with a 2.18 ERA in 53 2/3 innings, with nine walks and 18 strikeouts for Division II Cal U (25-22).

Youngsville High School graduate Amber Fox was 4-for-7 with four runs and a stolen base in Division III Pitt-Bradford’s 5-0 and 10-2 women’s softball sweep Monday of Alfred State. Pitt Bradford, 21-11 overall and 13-5 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, entering the AMCC tourney at Penn State-Behrend as the fourth seed. UPB will play D’Youville at noon on Friday.

Fox has started 30 games at third and is the leadoff hitter for the Lady Panthers. She is hitting .370 with 34 hits in 92 at bats, 13 steals, 30 runs, three doubles, four triples and 15 RBI.

Golf results

Jim Dombeck, Wayne Swanson and Dick Merenick each had the low gross of 41, and Joe Wilks had low net of 35 and Rod Seymour and Kenny Rowland right behind with 36 each, in the Monday Blueberry Senior League. Jon Carlson and Urban Bires had birdies.

Rescheduled

The Corry at Warren track meet on Tuesday was postponed and will be made up at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at War Memorial Field.

The Titusville at Eisenhower softball game scheduled for Tuesday was postponed and will be made up at 4 p.m. Monday, May 5, at Eisenhower.

The Northwestern at Eisenhower baseball game originally scheduled for Tuesday was postponed and will be made up at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Werner Park.

The Youngsville at Iroquois softball game postponed on Tuesday will be made up on Thursday at Iroquois.

The Sheffield at DuBois Central Catholic doubleheader postponed on Tuesday has been rescheduled for 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, at DuBois CC.

The Warren at Fort LeBoeuf baseball game scheduled for Tuesday was postponed and rescheduled for 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Fort LeBoeuf. If that field is unplayable, the game may be switched to a 4 p.m. start in Warren.

Track standouts

Tim Lange “ran his best time of the season, by far,” said Ike boys track coach David Bauer, when he finished first last Friday in the 110-meter hurdles at the 12-team Twin Tier Invitational track meet in 16.61 seconds. He was also second in the 300 hurdles.

Other Ike boys placewinners at the meet were:

Josh Eernisse, sixth 100; Bryon Braswell, seventh 100, sixth 200; Randy Buchanan fifth 400; Devin VanGuilder, sixth 1600, and fourth and qualifying for districts in 3200 in 10:42.73; Jason Adams, eighth 110 hurdles, and third 300 hurdles; 4×400 relay of Adams, Eernisse, Lange and Buchanan was third in 4×400 relay; Logan Eadie, Ben Morrison, Eernisse and Braswell fifth in 4×100 relay, and; Noah VanHouten, sixth in triple jump.

Eisenhower placed fifth as a team.
