Dragons avenge baseball loss with rout at McLane

EDINBORO – In a battle of two teams with one loss each in the region, Warren avenged an earlier loss against General McLane with a 10-2 Region 7 win Monday at the Lancers.

“They are a playoff team… and we were all tied with one loss in the region – (Warren), Harbor Creek and General McLane,” said Warren coach Rick Eaton. “It was good we got the win back on them.”

Warren is now 7-3 overall and 4-1 in the region. McLane is 3-2 in the region. Harbor Creek is also 4-1 in the region.

“The away game at Harbor Creek could be for the region title, but you never know,” said Eaton.

Tanner Stanz struck out eight batters in six innings Monday, and the offense built him a big lead.

Collin DeLattre’s RBI double capped a three-run second inning, and back-to-back doubles by Matt Hultquist and Derek Reagle gave Warren a 4-0 lead in the third. Reagle’s second RBI came in the fifth, and Stanz singled in two before Hultquist’s two-run homer in a four-run sixth.

Warren stays busy – if the rain holds off – at Fort LeBoeuf on Tuesday and hosting Corry Wednesday.

“We’re fighting through it… and I think we’re rounding into shape,” said Eaton

ERIE-The Youngsville Eagles fell to Mercyhurst Prep in non-region baseball action, 13-5, Monday at Erie’s Ainsworth Field.

The host Lakers roughed up Youngsville for seven runs in the bottom of the second. The Eagles would go on to put up four in the third, but the deficit was too much to overcome as they fall to 2-4 on the year.

“They seem to be good directional hitters,” said Youngsville coach Wayne Marino. “They pretty much hit the ball where they want to. When we break to cover second they put the ball right in the open spot; you don’t see too many high school teams that can do that.”

Levi Hendrickson went 2-for-3 to lead the Eagles at the plate while Aaron Hoover, Bryce Sherrard, Tanner Humphrey, Thomas Henry, and James Frazier added one hit each.

Youngsville hosts Iroquois on Wednesday.
