Lady Dragons rout rival Fort LeBoeuf
Round one goes to Warren.
The Lady Dragons defeated Fort LeBoeuf in a rematch of last year’s District 10 Class AAA Championship game, 11-2, Monday at Hawbaker Field.
The Bison – who have knocked Warren out of three consecutive D10 tournaments – jumped out to an early lead on the strength of senior first baseman Jolene Young’s two-run home run in the top of the first inning.
From there, the day belonged to Warren.
Alexis Munksgard drove in Kathryn Lobdell to put the Lady Dragons on the board in the second and Kaitlin Ishman followed with a two-run blast of her own to make it a 3-2 lead.
Megan Wortman singled home courtesy runner Summer Rosendahl in the third, and the Warren bats broke out for five runs in the bottom of the fourth with RBIs from Kennedy Walter, Paige Wilson, Meghan Loutzenhiser, and Wortman.
Wilson connected on her fourth home run of the season – a two-run shot over the left field fence – to make it an 11-2 advantage after six, and Alexa Bupp was able to finish it out on the defensive end to put the game away.
“I’m proud of the way we answered,” said Warren coach Mark Bupp. “We don’t really look at one specific team to beat, they’re just the next team in the way of us accomplishing our goals. Ish hit the ball hard all day, Paige did a nice job at the plate, and Lex did a good job on the mound regaining her composure after (LeBoeuf’s first inning home run). We played solid defense behind her as well.”
Bupp scattered six Bison hits over seven innings, striking out 10 and walking two.
Ishman was 2-for-3 at the plate with six total bases and a pair of runs batted in, Wortman and Lobdell were each 2-for-4 with doubles, and Wilson was 1-for-1 with a two walks and a sacrifice fly in addition to her home run.
Young finished the day 3-for-3 with a double and a home run for Fort LeBoeuf.
Warren is now 8-1 overall and 5-1 in Region 7, currently second behind Class AAAA McDowell (5-2, 4-0). The Lady Dragons are tops among Class AAA teams in the playoff race ahead of LeBoeuf (3-3, 2-2) and East (0-3, 0-3).
Warren hosts East for a doubleheader on Wednesday.
Megan Wortman homered and singled for Warren in a 13-3 junior varsity loss.

JOHNSONBURG 10, SHEFFIELD 0
JOHNSONBURG 18, SHEFFIELD 5
JOHNSONBURG – Sheffield had a freshmen battery at pitcher and catcher for both games of a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Johnsonburg.
“Claire Pierson and Emily Grove, they are doing a nice job; we’re just giving away too many outs behind them,” said Sheffield coach Glenn Baldensperger.
He said Alyssa Coons had three putouts at second base, Rachel Maines “a nice dig at shortstop,” and Brandy Rockwell and Jade Moore made plays in the outfield.
