Dragons win Region 2 title
TITUSVILLE – Undefeated Warren defeated the Rockets, 4-1, on Saturday to win the Region 2 boys tennis title.
Warren is 11-0 and 5-0 in the region with one match remaining, at Rocky Grove on Monday.
Top Dragon junior Nate Sandberg defeated Eric Maginnis 6-1, 2-6 and 6-1 in the third set. Ben Auzou defeated Shanon Daugherty, 6-3, 6-1.
“Both boys recorded their 11th singles wins of the season,” said Warren coach Jeff Bartsch.
Completing the singles sweep over Titusville was junior Sean McGuinness as he defeated Harland Kester by 6-2, 6-2 scores.
In top doubles action, juniors Quinn Boger and Noah Colvin dropped a two-set decision to Devon Pettit and Cameron Daugherty, 6-7 (3-7), 4-6. Eric Cecco and Max Pierson picked up the second-doubles win, 6-1, 6-1, to complete the scoring with the Dragons prevailing 4-1 in the team match.
“As a whole, we didn’t play well today,” said Bartsch. “Play will be better next time we are on court.”
In exhibition play, Dylan Hansen and Steffen Blair won, 8-0, in doubles, and junior Darren Liu won an exhibition singles match.
The Dragons are locked in a position in the District Team Championships on May 9.
They will travel to Rocky Grove on Monday and then the Tri-County Championships in Sharon on Wednesday. The Dragons are the two-time defending champions.
