Knights fall to state-champ Johnsonburg

JOHNSONBURG-Eisenhower jumped out early on defending state-champion Johnsonburg Monday, but couldn’t hold on as the host Rams went on to a 6-2 win.

Cole Peterson struck out 15 Ike batters while allowing just three hits in the win for Johnsonburg.

“It makes it easy on the defense when a pitcher strikes out that many,” said Ike coach Cody Vincent. “Besides the first inning, we only had two baserunners the rest of the game.”

The Knights took an early lead when Logan Bellardo doubled and came around to score on a botched pickoff attempt at first base. Casey Vincent scored from third when a dropped third strike was misplayed by the Rams.

Johnsonburg answered with one run in the bottom of the inning and five more in the second on one hit.

Vincent, Bellardo, and Kyle Hunt had hits for the Knights, who travel to county-rival Youngsville on Wednesday.
