Holy Week Church Services
Holy Week at Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church will include morning prayer at 8 a.m., an evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7 p.m. and night prayer on Thursday. Good Friday will include morning prayer at 8 a.m. and Friday Service of the Passion of the Lord at 1:30 p.m. On Saturday there will be morning prayer at 8 a.m. and Blessing of Easter foods at noon. The Great Easter Vigil will begin at 9 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church. On Easter Sunday, the Resurrection of the Lord will be celebrated at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church will host a Good Friday service at 3 p.m. All are welcome to join in. An Easter Sunday service will be held April 20 at 9:45 a.m.
Scandia Covenant Church will have a soup and bread supper at 6 p.m. Thursday with a Maundy Thursday service immediately following. On Easter Sunday, April 20, there will be a 9:30 a.m. Easter breakfast and Easter egg hunt with worship following at 10:45 a.m.
Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church will participate in the Ecumenical Maundy Thursday service at First Lutheran Church at 7 p.m. On Good Friday, Stations of the Cross will begin at noon, and a Good Friday Office with sermon will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday will include an 8 p.m. Easter Vigil (the first celebration of Easter); and Sunday will include a 9:30 a.m. Easter Sunday worship, according to the Rev. Matthew R. Scott, Vicar.
Russell Community Good Friday Service sponsored by all of the churches in Russell will be held April 18 at 7 p.m. at Praise Fellowship, 7451 Market St., Russell. Refreshments will be served prior to the service.
Praise Fellowship’s Sunday Easter worship will include a 10 a.m. service at Praise Fellowship and a 6 p.m. service at the Jamestown Campus, Willow Bay Theater, Jamestown, N.Y.
St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 15 Francis St., Jamestown, N.Y., will have Pascha (Easter) service on Saturday, April 19, beginning at 11:30 p.m.
North Warren Presbyterian Church, 200 S. State St., North Warren, will have a Maundy Thursday Service of Remembrance & Communion at 7 p.m.
By popular demand they will once again have a re-enactment of the Last Supper patterned after the Da Vinci painting. The “hand bell room” in the sanctuary will be transformed into the upper room with participants invited to come forward and take a seat at the Lord’s Table as one of Christ’s disciples, breaking the bread and drinking the cup. Pastor Ward will share a special message for the evening titled, “Gathering Around the Lord’s Table” taken from 1 Corinthians 11:23-26. If you have attended this service in the past, you will certainly want to come back this year, and if you haven’t attended before, you should plan now to attend and invite a friend. It promises to bring new meaning to Holy Week observances. Special music will be provided by the adult choir.
On Good Friday parishioners will attend a 7:30 p.m. Community Good Friday Service at First Methodist Church, 200 Market St., Warren, sponsored by the Warren Area Ministerial at 7:30 p.m. The Community Choir will provide special music for the service.
On Saturday, the church will have a Community Easter Party and Egg Hunt from 10 a.m. to noon. Children from preschool to grade six from the North Warren Presbyterian Community Day Care, Sunday School, Club 456, and their friends are invited. This is not only a time of fun and excitement for the children, but a great opportunity for them to invite their friends to hear the “Good News” of Easter.
On Easter Sunday, the church will have an Outdoor Community Easter Sunrise Service in Community Park at 7 a.m. Come and worship the Risen Lord with friends and neighbors in the North Warren Presbyterian Church Community Park as we face the sun together and give praise to the “Risen Son!” The service will take place outside (rain or shine) in the Dave Clark Pavilion. Be missional – invite a friend to join you. Following the service, the youth group will provide a free, hot breakfast in Fellowship Hall featuring egg casserole and fresh baked goods. Donations will be accepted to the Youth Mission Fund for the Summer Mission Trip.
Sunday school for all ages is planned for 9:30 a.m., and Easter observances will continue with regular Sunday School classes for nursery to adults, Celebrating the Good News of Christ’s Resurrection, and worship of the Risen Lord at 11 a.m. The Celebration of the Resurrection of the Lord will continue with a special service of praise and thanksgiving. The sanctuary will be decorated with spring flowers, and the adult choir will have special music before the worship service. Rev. Ward’s sermon will be titled “Joy For the World” taken from John 20:1-18.
Hessel Valley Lutheran Church will have a 7 p.m. Maundy Thursday service and an 11 a.m. Easter service.
Easter Triduum at Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church will include: On Holy Thursday, April 17, morning prayer at 9 a.m.; Mass of the Lord’s supper at 7 p.m.; and Adoration from 8 to 11 p.m. with Night Prayer at 11 p.m. On Good Friday, April 18: morning prayer at 9 a.m.; a traditional Good Friday service at 12:30 p.m.; and participation in the Community Good Friday service at First United Methodist Church at 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, April 19: morning prayer at 9 a.m.; blessing of Easter food in church at 1 p.m.; and a Catholic Community Easter Vigil at 9 p.m. On Easter Sunday: Easter Eucharist at 8 a.m. and at 10:30 a.m.
St. Paul Lutheran Church, 306 Conewango Ave., Warren will join in an Ecumenical Holy Communion service on Maundy Thursday at 7 p.m. at First Lutheran Church. On Good Friday, they will join with other Warren area Lutheran churches for a service at 12:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church and a 7 p.m. Tenebrae service at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Easter Sunday, April 20, they will have an Easter breakfast and egg hunt for the children at 9 a.m. Tickets for the breakfast are $3, and reservations are due to the church office (723-8460) Thursday, April 17. The Easter Holy Communion worship service will be at 10:45 a.m. with the Rev. Sandra Jones preaching and presiding.
St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Sheffield, will have Holy Thursday: 5:30 p.m. Sacrificial Meal of Soup and Bread; 7:30 p.m. Institution of the Lord’s Supper w/washing of feet; and 9 p.m. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament before Altar of Repose.

An Ecumenical Maundy Thursday/Holy Thursday Service will be held at 7 p.m. at Sheffield United Methodist Church.

On Easter Sunday, there will be an Easter sunrise service at 6:20 a.m. at Sheffield Cemetery. In case of inclement weather, the service will be at Sheffield United Methodist Church. Easter worship will be at 9:30 a.m. at Barnes United Methodist Church and at 11 a.m. at Sheffield United Methodist Church.
First Church of the Nazarene will have a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. at their church. The Easter service will be at 9 a.m. Sunday.
Youngsville Free Methodist Church, 179 Davis St., Youngsville, will have Easter worship at 9:30 a.m. All are welcome.
Emanuel United Church of Christ will have a Maundy Thursday service of Holy Communion at 7:30 p.m. The evening message will be “Do This In Remembrance of Me.” On Saturday, April 19, at 12:30 p.m., the church will hold its annual Easter egg hunt for church members and friends. Easter Sunday will begin at 9:30 a.m. with coloring of Easter eggs that will be distributed at the conclusion of worship. The Easter worship celebration will begin at 11 a.m. The Emanuel choir will provide a special introit and anthems. The Easter message will be “Easter: The Possibility of Possibility.”
Cherry Grove Community Chapel will have a sunrise service at 7 a.m. Sunday. Guest speaker will be Matt Cox from Miracle Mountain, followed by breakfast at Cherry Grove Fire Hall. Sunday school will be held at 9:30 a.m., and morning worship will be at 10:30 a.m.
Pastor Ralph Culp will deliver messages of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, on Easter Sunday, April 20. Everyone is welcome to attend the services to be held during morning worship, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Sanford United Methodist Church, (located at 2550 Sanford Road, off Route 27 or Mickle Hill Road, in Pittsfield), and at 11 a.m., at Grand Valley United Methodist Church, (at 107 Goodwill St., also off Route 27, in Grand Valley). In addition to the Resurrection sermons, both congregations will participate in an Easter observance of Holy Communion, and confirmands and new members will be accepted into the congregation at the Grand Valley Church during the morning service.
A sunrise service will be held Sunday, April 20, at 7 a.m. at Covenant United Methodist Church, 1624 Pennsylvania Ave. E., Warren, with breakfast to follow. Regular worship service will be at 10 a.m. instead of 11 a.m. that day. Also, the church will have a Maundy Thursday open community from 4 to 6 p.m., and a 10 a.m. service on Sunday.
Warren Alliance Church, 278 Kinzua Rd., Warren, will participate in the Community Good Friday Service at First United Methodist Church at 7:30 p.m. Alliance Church will have a sunrise service at 7:30 a.m. on Easter Sunday, and Sunday School at 9 a.m. and Easter worship gathering at 10:30 a.m.
First Lutheran Church, 109 W. Third Ave., Warren, will serve as host for the Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. The Rev. LeRoy Beckes, retired Presbyterian Church (USA) of Bradford will preach. Members from Bethany, First, St. John’s and St. Paul Lutheran churches along with First Presbyterian and Trinity Episcopal will join together in this special service. The service marks the beginning of the sacred three days and begins with an opportunity for participants to receive individual absolution. Holy Communion will be celebrated. A combined choir will provide the anthem.
The Good Friday Liturgy will be observed at 12:30 p.m. at First Lutheran with Bethany, St. John’s, First, and St. Paul Lutheran Churches and First Presbyterian Church joining together. Special music will be offered by a combined choir.
Easter will be celebrated with Holy Communion at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. with the Rev. David M. Blank, senior pastor, preaching.
Bethany Lutheran Church, 110 Church St., Sheffield, will participate with the Holy Week Services at First Lutheran and St. John’s Lutheran Churches in Warren. Bethany members are also invited to participate with the Sheffield Ministerial Association’s Good Friday service at Sheffield United Methodist Church from noon to 3 p.m.
Easter will be celebrated with Holy Communion at 11:15 a.m. with the Rev. Jeffrey B. Ewing, preaching.
St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 Pleasant Ave., will participate with the Holy Weeks Services at First and St. John’s Lutheran Churches.
Tenebrae will be observed for the Good Friday service at 7 p.m.
Easter Vigil will be celebrated at 7 p.m.
Easter will be celebrated with Holy Communion at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Jeffrey B. Ewing preaching.
The Harbor Free Methodist Church, 135 Conewango Ave., Warren, and David’s Tabernacle will have a Good Friday service and Messianic Passover Seder at 6 p.m. Friday. The full meal will be provided; reservations are requested. On Saturday, April 19, the “On a Wing and a Prayer Drama Team” will present “The Person of Jesus,” an Easter production, free and open to the public, at 7 p.m. On Sunday, there will be breakfast at The Harbor at 9:30 a.m. and Easter service at 11 a.m.
Good News Community Church, 615 Conewango Ave., Warren, will have an Easter Sunday worship at 10 a.m. Pastor Larry Condron will provide the sermon.
