John “Wally” Peterson, 86, of Chandlers Valley, passed away Thursday April 11, 2014 at his residence.
He was born November, 16, 1927 in Jamestown, N.Y., a son of the late Willis and Pauline (Gustafson) Peterson. Wally worked as a logger all of his life for various lumber mills in the area. After retiring in 1990, he then began to build furniture and cabinetry. He was an excellent carpenter and cabinet maker. He was also a blacksmith. Wally belonged to the Hessell Valley Lutheran Church and to the Sugar Grove American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, operating his Farmall cub tractor , and was a great storyteller. Wally’s greatest joy came from his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by 2 sons, John (Glenna) Peterson and Mark Peterson, both of Chandlers Valley, 3 grandchildren, Jory Peterson, of Warren and Kiley (Kevin) Wiltsie and Ashley (Aaron) Spencer, both of Russell, 4 great grandchildren, Ava Peterson, Marley Peterson, Ella Wiltsie, Seth Wiltsie and a niece and a nephew.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Peterson on June 30, 2009 and a sister, Alice Marie Passenger.
A memorial service will be held on Monday April 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hessell Valley Lutheran Church in Chandlers Valley, with the Rev. Nancy Schwanke, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Hessell Valley Lutheran Cemetery and will be private. The Family suggests memorial donations be made to the Hessell Valley Lutheran Church, Chandlers Valley, Pa. 16312.
