G. Allen Benedict
G. Allen Benedict, 85, of Pittsfield, passed away Wednesday, April 9th, 2014 at the Warren General Hospital.
Allen was born March 23rd, 1929 to the late Charley and Bertha Clara (Eastman) Benedict. He attended the Garland Schools and at the age of 17 he first began working at the Rouse Warren County Home and then went on to work at the Rose Cliff Farm where he was a farm foreman. Lastly, Allen worked at the National Forge for 35 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Irvine Presbyterian Church, volunteered at the Warren County Fair and was a member of the Brokenstraw Tractor Club. He loved gardening, hunting, cutting firewood and listening to Polka music. His family meant everything to him and he will be greatly missed by all of them.
He is survived by 3 children, Duane (Sandy) Benedict of Pittsfield, Diane (Chris) Payne of Pittsfield, Dennis (Kathy) Benedict of Youngsville, 7 siblings, Lavern Benedict of Pittsfield, Lee (Angie) Benedict of Oil City, Clara (Herb) Saxton of Tionesta, Clarence (Loretta) Benedict of St. Joseph, MI., Roy (Judy) Benedict of Lottsville, Dora Dygan of Warren, Ruth (Glen) Hagg of Youngsville, a brotherinlaw, David Close, 2 sisterinlaws, Bernice Close and Laura Findland, 8 grandchildren, 10 greatgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Allen is preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary (Crippen) Benedict, whom he married on August 4th, 1950 and who died October 8th, 2013, and a brother, Lewis (Toot) Benedict.
Friends will be received at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 North Main Street in Youngsville, on Friday April 11th, from 37 p.m. and for1 hour prior to a funeral service which will be held on Saturday at 11a.m., with the pastor Dennis Ledebur, pastor of the Irvine Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Sanford Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations be made to the Irvine Presbyterian Church, National Forge Road, Irvine, Pa. 16329 or Friends of the Rouse Warren County Home, 701 Rouse Avenue, Youngsville, Pa 16371.
