Weldbank home destroyed by fire

A Weldbank home was destroyed by fire early Sunday.

There was no one home when the fire broke out at the 10379 Route 6 DeGolyer residence shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday.

Responding firefighters arrived to find the home “well involved,” according to Clarendon Volunteer Fire Department First Assistant Chief Andy Jones.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

The Clarendon, Sheffield, Cherry Grove, Glade and Pleasant volunteer fire departments responded to the fire. Glade and Kane had additional units on standby.

The home is a total loss, as are two vehicles that were on the property at the time of the fire, Jones said. A neighboring house, owned by a relative, took some damage as a result of the heat from the fire.

Clarendon firefighters returned to the scene at about 10:30 a.m. to deal with hotspots.
