Beaty Warren takes a bow
“On the banks of Conewango, just above the dam
Stands the Beaty Junior High School, stately and so grand.”
– Taken from Beaty Warren Middle School’s Alma Mater
Well, the dam is gone and Beaty is now a middle school, but it still stands stately on the banks of the Conewango Creek following a two year renovation. For those of you who attended Beaty in the past, you are in for a big surprise!
The former band room and hall are now the new media center; the library is the kitchen and food prep area; and offices are now located in the old 100 hall. Energy efficient boilers , light fixtures, and hot water tanks; exterior insulation; automatic flush valves; rainwater harvesting system; geo-thermal wells for heating; occupancy sensors; and new windows are just some of the energy efficient measures included in the renovations.
Classrooms and common areas have been redesigned and relocated to support the Middle Level Philosophy. This philosophy allows for exploratory experiences for students as well as team planning time and student electives.
Beaty was also recognized as a “School to Watch” during school year in April 2011. The Pennsylvania Schools to Watch Program evaluates schools with a rigorous set of criteria that determine if a school is exhibiting excellence in the following areas: Academic Excellence, Developmental Responsiveness, Social Equity, and Organizational Structures/Processes. Since its designation in 2011, Beaty Warren Middle School staff has presented workshops throughout Pennsylvania and in Washington, DC as well as been involved in many forums and breakout sessions to share their best educational practices and how they have effectively implemented middle level programming. Student achievement has soared on state assessments, and this is truly a “school to watch.”
The public is invited to attend an Open House on Tuesday, May 27th, between 5:00 and 7:30 p.m. The chorus, band, and orchestra will provide concerts in the auditorium. Student art work and projects will be displayed throughout the building.
Memorabilia will be showcased in the auxiliary gym, a book fair will be available in the library, and proceeds from an Ice Cream Social will benefit on-going projects in the school.
The students and staff have promised other surprises too, so plan now to join your family and friends for a fun evening at the “new” Beaty Warren Middle School!
