Eisenhower loses rainy opener at Titusville
TITUSVILLE – Eisenhower barely got its first game in, losing 10-2 to Region 5 opponent Titusville before the rain stopped it in the fifth inning.
Eisenhower coach R.J. Williams said Eisenhower committed three throwing errors in Titusville’s rainy six-run fourth broke the game open. Ike (0-1) actually led 2-1 and trailed just 4-2 after three innings. Ike pitcher Haylie Birt struck out five and walked five, and four walks came with the rain, according to Williams.
“They played in it, too,” Williams said of Titusville, which is 1-1 in the region. “They just didn’t happen to be out in the field when it started.”
Despite the loss, Williams was optimistic with the offense, including three walks from Dakota Williams, and two hits and two RBI from Jocelyn Courtney. Birt and Ashley Barnett hit the ball hard every at bat, according to Williams, and had one hit each.
