Dragons improve to 4-0 with sweep

The Warren Dragons boys tennis team improved to 4-0 on the year with a five-match sweep of Oil City Thursday at the Betts Courts.

The Dragons’ singles lineup of Nate Sandberg, Ben Auzou, and Sean McGuinness won their matches by identical 10-0 scores. McGuinness is now 3-1 this season while Sandberg and Auzou remain undefeated at 4-0.

In doubles, junior Quinn Boger returned to action, teaming with Noah Colvin to win by a 10-0 count. Warren’s number-two doubles pair of Steffen Blair and Clark Eason also won, 10-2.

“This was a good effort by all of our boys today,” said Warren coach Jeff Bartsch. “Following yesterday’s long match at Elk County (in St. Marys), it was good to play at home. And, we got an early 3 (p.m.) start today in order to beat the rain we knew was coming.”

In exhibition play, the Warren pairs of Eric Cecco and Max Pierson, Nick Pellegrino and Teddy Leos, Simon Smith and Jason Waterfield, and Darren Liu and Mason Mohney all earned convincing wins.

Warren returns to action on Saturday, hosting Harbor Creek at Betts Park for an 11 a.m. start.
