Sugar Grove Area News in Brief
The Sugar Grove Elementary School held a Special Visitor Luncheon on April 1st and 2nd. This was formerly called Grandparent Luncheon but has been adjusted so students could invite other family members. Grandparents, Parents, Neighbors, Aunts and Uncles all came out to enjoy lunch with their students at the school. The SGES Book Fair was also be open on both days for Visitors to attend with students.
The Sugar Grove Elementary School CPT held its Annual Choice Auction and Ice Cream Social on Thursday, April 3. The proceeds from this event each year go to benefit the SGES students.
The Warren County School District will be on Spring Break April 17 through April 21. Classes will resume on Tuesday, April 22.
It’s the First Day of Fishing Saturday, April 12, and the Lottsville United Methodist Church is hosting a Pancake Breakfast from 7 a.m. – 11 a.m. The cost is a donation. Breakfast will be pancakes with sausage, scrambled egg, juices, applesauce, fresh fruit pies, beverages. All fishermen are welcome.
The Community Lunches in the area continue to be well attended. All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend any or all of the area Community lunches. Each month lunch is held on the 1st Friday of the month at the Mission Covenant Church at the corner of Matthews Run and Jackson Run Road. On the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church located at the corner of Race Street and Jamestown Street in the center of town. On the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church located in Chandlers Valley. Everyone is invited to attend.
Registration is now open at the Imaginative Preschool of the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church for the 2014-15 school year. The preschool has been in operation for more than 25 years and is a wonderful way to start off any child’s education. We Are Bookin’
The Sugar Grove Free Library will once again hold its 5K and 1 Mile Run/Walk on April 26. All proceeds from the event will go to benefit the library. Race time will be at 10 a.m. and registration will begis at 9 a.m. at the library on Harmon Street. All ages are welcome to participate in the event. The race start and finish line will be located on the corner of the Library on School Street.
For the race route, you can contact the library or stop in. The cost to participate in the 5K is $15 if you register on or before April 18. After April 18 the cost to register will be $20. The cost to participate in the 1 mile fun walk is $10 if you register on or before April 18. After April 18 the cost to register will be $15. T-shirts are guaranteed to all entries received by April 11.

There will be a Benefit Dinner for Jim Kolenda on Saturday at the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church. Dinner will begin at 5 p.m. The event will feature Ron Carrington and “A Touch of Gold” who will be donating live music starting at 6:30 p.m. Come for dinner and stay for great music. The menu is chicken and biscuits served with mashed potatoes, hot vegetables, applesauce, beverages, and a pie buffet for dessert. There will be Chinese Auction tickets available at the event. The cost is only a donation. Jim has been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). All proceeds from the evening will go assist Jim with his medical expenses. If you would like to make a donation to the Chinese auction or a donation to support Jim and his family at this time, please contact the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church at 489-3105.
Indoor Garage Sales
The Sugar Grove Volunteer Fire Auxiliary is sponsoring an Indoor Garage Sale at the firehall on April 12 from 9 a.m. 3 p.m. If you are interested in being a vendor, eight foot table spaces are $10. Please call 814-489-7750 Linda York for registration or more information.
Luck Shoot, raffle
The Sugar Grove American Legion Post #758 will be having a Luck Shoot at the Post home on Sunday, April 13th starting at noon. Prizes will be steaks, hams, turkeys, and there will also be a shoot off for pies. Mark your calendars and plan to join in the fun. If anyone is interested and would like to donate pies, you can do so by contacting 489-7986. This event will also include a Gun Raffle. Tickets for the gun raffle are $5 and can be purchased anytime at the Legion. The drawing will take place on April 13th.

Medical items needed
The American Legion Post #758 has medical items such as wheel chairs, crutches, portable toilets, and more. They are willing to loan these items to anyone in need of them. Contact 489-7986 if you would like more information.
