Dragons make quick work of Central in opener

The Lady Dragons softball season started with a 15-0 Region 7 win over Erie Central on Wednesday.

Senior Alexa Bupp, a returning District 10 all-star, pitched a no-hitter in the four-inning game, striking out 10 of the 12 batters she faced while walking just one.

While Bupp was doing her job in the circle, offensively the Dragons were hitting for the fences.

“I thought the kids played really well,” said Warren coach Mark Bupp. “It took us a while to get settled in at the plate, but we swung at quality pitches, and I was happy with the innings we were able to put together. It was obviously a good game to help us get on our feet.”

Freshman Megan Wortman was a standout in the batter’s box, going three-for-three with five RBI on the day.

“(Megan) caught our eye during preseason and she stands out in my mind now,” said coach Bupp. “She has definitely earned her spot as we look for players to fill the holes left by those we graduated last year.”

Sophomore catcher Paige Wilson was also three-for-three at the plate while Kennedy Walter, Alexa Bupp, Lauren Frazier, and Brittany Massa each added two hits.

The Lady Dragons have a promising season ahead according to their coach, and they will continue to work hard in practice.

“We need to get better at the things we work on every day: communication, knowing where the play is on defense, being grounded, and attacking the ball when we hit,” he said.

The team will host Strong Vincent tomorrow, and travel to Corry to play Mercyhurst Prep on Saturday.
