Eagles suffer loss in home opener
The Lady Eagles’ softball season started on a sour note Tuesday, as they fell to defending Region 5-champion Iroquois, 12-0, in six innings at Youngsville High School.
“It’s the first game of the season, and we just had our first outdoor practice yesterday,” said Youngsville coach Ron Jameson. “The school district did a great job getting the field ready. I thought (Iroquois) had some good hits, and we just hit the ball right at them.”
The Braves’ bats broke through in the top of the third when Allie Kaliewski connected on her first of two home runs, a three-run shot that made its way on to the Youngsville High School football field in deep left-center.
Iroquois finished the frame with a five-run lead, added three runs in the fourth inning, and four more in the sixth to put the game away.
Jessica Jameson and Elyssa Horn each had three hits for the Lady Eagles, Judi Lewis had a pair of doubles, and Katie Gustafson doubled and tripled.
Horn took the loss for Youngsville, which hosts Union City tomorrow in a non-region game.
