SGES Special

Visitor Luncheon

The Sugar Grove Elementary School will have a Special Visitor Luncheon on April 1 and 2. This was formerly called Grandparent Luncheon but has been adjusted so students can invite other family members.

Come and enjoy lunch with your grandchildren, neighbors, nieces or nephews at the school. The cost is $3.50, and you may select from five different entrees that will be served with fruit, vegetables, milk or water. On April 1 grades Kindergarten, 3rd and 4th will host their visitors for lunch. On April 2 grades 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 6th will host their visitors for lunch. Plan to arrive a few minutes early to purchase your lunch tickets at the cafeteria door. Grades K-1-2-3 have a lunch time of 11-11:30 and Grades 4-5-6 have a lunch time of 11:45-12:15. Order forms for lunch may be obtained from students or you can call the school office at 489-7851.

The SGES Book Fair will also be open on both days for visitors to visit with students. Gift items and loads of good books can be found at the book fair. A portion of the purchases at the book fair help benefit library supplies for the SGES students. Ice Cream Social

The Sugar Grove Elementary School CPT will hold its annual Choice Auction and Ice Cream Social on Thursday, April 3. The proceeds from this event each year go to benefit the SGES students.

This annual event is a lot of fun and well attended in our community. The SGES Choice Auction always has wonderful donated items. Anyone can buy chances on items. It’s not too late to donate. Past donations have included baked breads, pies, candies, craft items, new apparel, toys, games, gift certificates, even cash and gas. The more donations received the more tickets that will be sold to benefit students. Contact the school office at 489-7851 to sign up to donate or for more information.

WCSD schedule

The Warren County School District will be on Spring Break on Thursday, April 17, Friday, April 18th and Monday, April 21st. Classes will resume on Tuesday, April 22nd.

First Day of

Fishing Breakfast

It’s the first day of trout season on Saturday, April 12, and the Lottsville United Methodist Church is hosting a pancake breakfast from 7-11 a.m. The cost is a donation. Breakfast will be pancakes with sausage, scrambled egg, juices, applesauce, fresh fruit pies, beverages. The public is invited.

PMEA All-State Band

Eisenhower High School is sending two students on to All-State Band. Advancing on from Regionals Concert Band are James Palmer, Tenor Saxophone and Macy Retterer, Contrabass Clarinet. The students will attend the Pennsylvania State Festival in the Hershey, PA area from March 26th through March 29th. On Saturday March 29th they will perform at The Forum Auditorium in Harrisburg. The band will be under the direction of Guest Conductor Andrew Boysen from the University of New Hampshire.

Book Club

The next Sugar Grove Library Book Club Meeting will be held March 31. The book chosen is Snow Falling on Cedars by David Guterson. You have over four full weeks to obtain a copy of the book and join the Sugar Grove Book Club. For more information, stop in the Sugar Grove Free Library.

Community Lunches

The Community Lunches in the area continue to be well attended. All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend any or all of the area Community lunches. Each month lunch is held on the 1st Friday of the month at the Mission Covenant Church at the corner of Matthews Run and Jackson Run Road. On the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church located at the corner of Race Street and Jamestown Street in the center of town. On the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church located in Chandlers Valley. Everyone is invited to attend.

We Are Bookin

The Sugar Grove Free Library will once again hold their 5K and 1 Mile Run/Walk on April 26. All Proceeds from the event will go to benefit the Library. Race time will begin at 10 a.m. on race day and registration will begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Library on Harmon Street. All ages are welcome to participate in the event. The race start and finish line will be located on the corner of the Library on School Street.

For the race route, you can contact the Library or stop in. The cost to participate in the 5K is $15 if you register on or before April 18. After April 18th the cost to register will be $20. The cost to participate in the 1 mile fun walk is $10 if you register on or before April 18th. After April 18th the cost to register will be $15. T-shirts are guaranteed to all entries received by April 11th.

A prize shoot and gun raffle to support the Eisenhower High School Band will be held at the Pine Grove Sportsman’s Club Saturday, March 29, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will take place rain or shine. The club is located at 2344 Egypt Hollow Road in Russell. Events will include trap shooting, .22 Luck Shoot, Chinese auction, and raffle drawing. Food and drink will be available. Prizes for the raffle are as follows: 1st Prize Mossberg 535, Camo 12 ga; 2nd Prize – $50 Tall Tales Sporting Gift Certificate; 3rd Prize George Foreman 9-Serving Grill. Tickets are available from band parents and will also be available the day of the event.

Benefit dinner

There will be a benefit dinner for Jim Kolenda on Saturday, April 5. at the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church. Dinner will begin at 5 p.m. The event will feature Ron Carrington and “A Touch of Gold” who will be donating live music starting at 6:30 p.m. Come for dinner and stay for great music. Menu includes chicken and biscuits served with mashed potatoes, hot vegetables, applesauce, beverages, and a pie buffet for dessert. There will be Chinese Auction tickets available at the event. The cost is only a donation. Jim has been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). All proceeds from the evening will go assist Jim with his medical expenses. Indoor garage sales

The Sugar Grove Volunteer Fire Auxiliary is sponsoring another fun Indoor Garage Sale at the firehall on April 12 from 9 a.m. 3 p.m. If you are interested in being a vendor, eight foot table spaces are $10. Please call 814-489-7750 Linda York for registration or more information.

St. Jude’s


The Sugar Grove Free Methodist Imaginative Preschool held their annual Trike-A-Thon to benefit the St. Jude’s Research Children’s Hospital on Thursday, March 27. The Preschool students peddled many laps around an indoor course while raising money to benefit St. Judes. During the week the students also learned many helpful trike and bike safety rules from Bikewell Bear and friends. If you would like to sponsor this wonderful cause there is still time.
