Cancer event will include dinner and program

The American Cancer Society and Warren General Hospital will hold their annual Celebration of Life dinner on Wednesday, April 2, at the Conewango Club in Warren.

Terry Cook, a registered nurse at WGH’s Cancer Care Center, said, “It’s fun. We invite anyone with cancer, a history of cancer or any involvement with cancer. All of our staff and physicians will be there, as well as representatives from the American Cancer Society.”

It’s a gathering WGH and the ACS put together five years ago, he said. The evening is funded by grants from pharmaceutical companies, and their involvement is only educational, not advertising or business, according to Cook.

Registration begins at 5 p.m., with a large buffet dinner and program at 6 p.m. Speakers from the YMCA’s Livestrong program and Hospice will make their presentations during dinner, and a string ensemble from Youngsville High School will provide the entertainment, as it has in years past.

There will also be a Breast Cancer Survivors’ Wall, honoring patients who have undergone or are undergoing treatment.

Last year, well over 100 people participated in the event.
