Comedian in Erie

WCTL-FM Radio welcomes Los Angeles comedian Ron Pearson for its ninth annual Family Comedy Night at 7 p.m. on April 5 at Erie First Assembly of God, 8150 Oliver Rd., Erie. Pearson is a multi-talented performer who has been tearing up the audiences in comedy clubs and theaters with his “keeping it clean” brand of humor, has had hundreds of TV appearances, works with Disney and has been called the best corporate comedian in the business.

Pearson’s penchant for entertainment started early. A childhood street performer, he set a world record for juggling at the age of 15 and took his talents all the way to Hollywood. As the baby of eight children, comedy seemed to be the only way to get attention and he has mastered it. The Hollywood Reporter called him, “a comic ball of fire,” and The Los Angeles Times wrote, “I laughed so hard my jaws ached.”

As a stand-up comedian, Pearson has appeared on programs like “The Late Late Show” and “The Dennis Miller Show” and he has performed on “Comedy Central.” Pearson’s first comedy special earned him three Telly Awards, and he was nominated Corporate Comedian of the Year. His second DVD set off a national tour of theaters and churches with “The Apostles of Comedy.”

As an actor, Pearson has had recurring roles on several TV programs such as “The Drew Carey Show,” “The George Lopez Show” and “Boston Legal,” and he has appeared in two movies, including The Disney Channel film “Starstruck.” He has also hosted television shows. “Pirates of the Caribbean” creator Jay Wolpert hired Pearson to host his syndicated show “Skedaddle,” making him one of the youngest game show hosts in history. Several years later, the two teamed up again for the long running Family Channel hit “Shopping Spree.” Pearson went on to host on the Encore Channel for four years and also covered the show “Pure Genius” for the Discovery Channel.

When he’s not filming, Pearson gets behind the scenes as one of the top warm-up comics in the business. Variety Magazine said Pearson was “The hardest working man on the set” and “He got the crowd pumped up to a frenzy rarely seen on “The Price is Right.” The Disney Channel also has Pearson’s plate full warming up “Good Luck Charlie,” “Ant Farm” and “Jessie.” George Lopez called Pearson’s warm up, “The best in the business.” Even the great Bob Newhart said of Pearson, “He’s the icing on the cake.”

When Pearson is not traveling the world or working on a TV show, he’s busy at home taking care of his wife Tanya, daughter Reagan and son Tex. He likes that the best because they always give him more material for the stage.
