Pet spending

Dear editor:

Interesting articles in your 14 March, 2014 newspaper – on pet spending at $55.7 billion dollars “per year” and extending unemployment benefits for 5 months at $9.7 billion dollars – for those who can’t find a job or have simply quit looking.

Considering the National Debt – at $17 trillion dollars and rising – it would take 305 years of pet spending to pay it off.

Additionally, and again considering pet spending “per year”, that spending would cover the unemployment benefits for 5.7 years.

I’m not against pets but is there a message in any of this?
