Poetry contest

Warren Public Library will sponsor “I Like My Library Poetry Contest” for ages 5 to 16 in honor of National Library Week. The topic of the poem should be “Why I Like (or love) My Library.” Winners will be selected from each of the three divisions: ages 5-8, ages 9-12, and ages 13-16. One winner from each division will receive a $30 Amazon gift card. All poems will be submitted to the Warren Times Observer for publication. Poetry contest guidelines and entry forms are available on the children’s events page at www.warrenlibrary.org. Guidelines and entry forms can also be picked up in the children’s department on the semi-circle between the children’s computers. Poems are due to the Warren Public Library Children’s Department by 5 p.m. Saturday, April 5. All poems must have an entry form attached. Kite flying rescheduled

On Sunday, March 23, the Allegheny Outdoor Club will hold its first Kite Flying Day beginning at 1 p.m. at the Windy Knoll home of Debra and John Young at 1588 Townline Rd., Russell. Participants can bring their own kite, or they can build their kite onsite with materials provided by kitemasters John Shinaberger, Michael Muntz and Debra Young. Hot dogs and buns will be provided. Kiteflyers should bring a side dish to share. This event is open to the public. Interested children are encouraged to bring their parents. Garden club to meet

Warren Garden Club will hold its first meeting of the 2014 season on at noon Thursday, March 20, in the Wetmore Room of the Jefferson DeFrees Family Center. Members are asked to take a small salad to share. Anyone interested in joining the club should call Donna Fire at 723-5166.

Class to lunch

Warren High School Class of 1944 will have lunch Thursday, March 20, at the Eagles Club, Pennsylvania Ave. E., Warren, with a get-together at 11:30 a.m. and lunch at noon. Spouses and significant others are welcome.

Warren Area High School Class of 1964 will have lunch at noon Friday, March 21, at the Conewango Club, Market St., Warren. All members of the class and their spouses and significant others are welcome.
