Robert D. Roth
Sergeant Major (retired) Robert Dean Roth was born 13 May 1954 in Ft. Meade, MD, and passed away unexpectedly 8 March 2014, in his home in Austin, TX. He was a 1972 graduate of Warren Area High School, Warren, PA.
He entered the United States Army (RA) on 8 June 1972 as a Chaparral Crewman in the Air Defense Artillery at Fort Dix, NJ and retired honorably as a Senior Air Defense Sergeant on 30 April, 1994.
Sergeant Major Roth served at all levels of leadership from Team Leader to Joint Task Force Operations Sergeant Major and was a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy at Fort Bliss, TX.
Sergeant Major Roth’s assignments include three separate overseas tours with V Corps, US Army. His assignment locations included Wiesbaden, Fulda, and Mainz, Germany at the height of the Cold War. Sergeant Major Roth also served previous assignments at Fort Hood, TX, Fort Ord, CA, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, and Fort Bliss, TX. Sergeant Major Roth led numerous multinational and joint training exercises in The Republic of South Korea, and with Joint Task Force 6, located along the USMexican border.
Sergeant Major Roth’s awards and decorations include; The Legion of Merit; The Meritorious Service Medal (Three Oak Clusters); The Joint Service Commendation Medal; The Army Commendation Medal (Three Oak Leaf Clusters); The Good Conduct Medal (6th Award); The National Defense Medal (2nd Award); The Joint Service Achievement Medal; and the Aircraft Crewman Badge.
After retirement Robert Roth worked as a case worker for the Texas Department of Human Services. He continued his career with the state of Texas for 19 years, later working for the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, and eventually obtaining the position of Manager of Business Requirements for Health and Human Services, which he held until the time of his passing.
Robert Roth is survived by his wife Sandy Roth of Austin, TX, his daughter Tammy Roth (Micah Meredith) of Lakewood, NY, his son Michael Roth of Austin, TX, his parents Charles and Sue Irvin of Russell, PA, his bothers: Larry Roth (Margie) of Lincoln, CA, Jimmy Roth (Sandy Wilks) of Warren, PA, Chaz Irvin (Kim) of Russell, PA, his sisters Sandy Smith (Mike) of Warren, PA, Kelly Smith (Mike) of Edinboro, PA and five grandchildren: Elijah Palmer, Ryleigh Palmer, Savannah Palmer, Meadow Meredith and Akeley Meredith. And many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Roth.
In life he loved spending time with his family and friends, playing golf, and working on numerous projects around his ranch in Austin. He was a loving husband, a caring father, and a great American, and he will be deeply missed.
