Day of Prayer

World Day of Prayer 2014 will be observed at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 7, at Hessel Valley Lutheran Church in Chandlers Valley, which is located on Hessel Valley Road. Local speakers from the Food Pantry and the Sugar Grove Outpost sponsored by Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church will talk about their local endeavors. All are welcome to this once a year World Day of Prayer service which is sponsored by the following local churches: Chandlers Valley United Methodist, Hessel Valley Lutheran, Mission Covenant, Sugar Grove Free Methodist, Sugar Grove Presbyterian and Sugar Grove United Methodist churches. Refreshments will follow the service.

Blood screening

On-line registration for this year’s Kiwanis Blood Screening Program is now available, highlighted in red, on the home page of the Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry website at www.wccbi.org. The screening will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Saturday, April 26 , from 6 to 10 a.m. The costs for this year’s screening remains at $35 for the basic screening and an additional cost of $25 for prostate screening, recommended for males older than 40. The on-line registration will be available only through March 30 .

Win at bridge

Winners in Monday evening duplicate bridge game at the YMCA were Lana Creal and Doug Megill, first with 26; and Emily Birgel and Jill Dart, second with 21.

Basket sale

Youngsville Public Library’s basket sale continues this month with tickets available for seven theme baskets at the library or from any member of Friends of the YPL. Tickets will be on sale until March 14. The drawing for the basket will be March 17.

Men to breakfast

A men’s breakfast will be held at 8:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, March 5, at North Warren Presbyterian Church. The breakfast is open to all men of the community, regardless of their faith. Cost is a donation of $3 for breakfast cooked by men from the community. All men are welcome.

To dance Saturday

The Circle Eight Square Dance Club will dance from 8 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8, in the auditorium at Warren State Hospital in North Warren. Mike Senita will be the caller.

Polka Sunday

The Slovenian Polka Boosters will dance from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at the Ridgway Eagles Club. Dick Tady DTO of Springdale, Pa., will provide music for all types of dancing. The public is invited. For information, call Paul Leofsky at 563-7516.

Movie Monday

Monday Night Movies at the Warren Public Library will continue March 10. This free event will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Slater Room on the third floor of the library. Complimentary popcorn will be available. This week’s PG-13 rated, 91 minute film stars Sandra Bullock, George Clooney, and Ed Harris. Director Alfonso Cuaron’s film stars Sandra Bullock as Dr. Ryan Stone, a scientist on a space shuttle mission headed by astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney), a talkative, charismatic leader full of colorful stories that he shares with his crewmates as well as mission control. As the two are on a space walk, debris hits the area where they are working, and soon the pair finds themselves detached from their ship and stranded in space. While figuring out what steps they can take to save themselves, Stone grapples with a painful past that makes her consider giving up altogether. Call the library at 723-4650 for the exact title of this and other movies in this series as the library’s movie license does not permit listing the titles of movies outside the library.

CAP meeting planned

Warren County Civil Air Patrol (CAP) will meet at Youngsville Masonic Hall, Joseph Warren Lodge, at 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, March 5, for a briefing on CAP and its activities in Warren County.
