Benefit for Dubs

Morningstar

The “Sister’s in Spirit” Bible Study Group would like to thank all those who so generously donated or made contributions to help with the benefit last weekend for Duane “Dubs” Morningstar.

World Day of Prayer

The 2014 World Day of Prayer Service for the Sugar Grove community will be on Friday, March 7, at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church. Area churches come together and take part in this annual service.

Portions of the service will be provided by the Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church , the Mission Covenant Church, the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church, The First Presbyterian Church of Sugar Grove, the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, and the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church.

Book Club

The Sugar Grove Library Book Club meeting had a special guest on Monday evening. They experienced a Skype session with a most charming and intriguing author, Dan Hetch. He was engaging, humorous and absolutely thrilled that we wanted to talk about his book with him.

The next Book Club Meeting will be held March 31st. The book chosen is Snow Falling on Cedars by David Guterson. You have over four full weeks to obtain a copy of the book and join the Sugar Grove Book Club. For more information, stop in the Sugar Grove Free Library.

Community Lunches

The Community Lunches in the area continue to be well attended. All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend any or all of the area Community lunches. Each month lunch is held on the 1st Friday of the month at the Mission Covenant Church at the corner of Matthews Run and Jackson Run Road. On the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church located at the corner of Race Street and Jamestown Street in the center of town. On the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church located in Chandlers Valley. Everyone is invited to attend.

WCSD Schedule

There will be no school for any employees for students on Monday, March 10. This is an energy day.

Murder Under

the Big Top

Eisenhower Knight-time Players will present their 4th annual dinner theatre, Thursday and Friday, March 14 and 15. Due to continued construction at EHMS, the dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Praise Fellowship Church in Russell.

This year’s performance, “Murder Under the Big Top” is a murder mystery written by the director, Mary Passinger. Audience members will have a chance to question suspects and guess who the killer is.

The dinner portion will consist of good healthy carnival food including sausage sandwiches with peppers and onions, meatball subs, or beef on weck sandwiches. In addition guests may choose curly fries with or without cheese or one of the Knight-time Players famous baked potatoes with toppings.

The feast will be finished off by a choice of funnel cakes or apple dumplings. Dinners include salad, entrees, dessert, and drinks, as well as popcorn and peanuts.

Tickets are available through the main office of EHMS (757-8878), from any cast member or by emailing mary.passinger@gmail.com. Tickets are limited and will not be available at the door. Be sure to buy your ticket early. Only $15 for the entire evening.

Broadway Delights

Eisenhower High School Senior Choir officers Sharon Harrington, Kirsten Beardsley, Brooke Stanton and Kearsten Maine are planning for the choir’s upcoming “Broadway Delights”. This is always a popular event with the general public. This year the event will be on Saturday, March 8, at Praise Fellowship Coffeehouse with shows at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

This biennial event features Broadway songs sung by Senior Choir, Reflections, soloists and small ensembles with a guest appearance by the EMHS Jazz Ensemble. Coffee and gourmet desserts will be served. A limited number of $6 tickets are left and can be purchased in advance by calling the Eisenhower school at 757-8878 ext. 2055.

Registration 2014-15

Registration is now open at the Imaginative Preschool of the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church for the 2014-15 school year. The preschool has been in operation for more than 25 years and is a wonderful way to start off any child’s education. Mr. EHS

The Annual Mr. EHS 2014 Contest will be held on Tuesday, March 4, at 7 p.m. The event is always highly entertaining. The cost will be $5 and this year it will be held in the EMHS gymnasium. Good Luck to this year’s contestants Seniors: Bryce Garris, Tre Frank, Jacob Hoffman, Timmy Lange, Ricky Zortman and Juniors: Ben Harvey, Jarrett Johnson, Drew Myer, and Chris Sanders.

EHS Trap

The EMHS Trap mandatory safety meeting will be held Saturday, March 1, at 1 p.m. downstairs at the Sugar Grove AMVETS. Reminder, first-year team members must attend this meeting. All other previous members must attend either this meeting or the one that was held Feb. 26. For more information or questions, team members can contact Coach Carl Black.

Grade Honors

The Sugar Grove Elementary School recently held an Honor Roll Breakfast for the 6th grade students that were awarded the status of Honor Roll and Merit Roll for the 6-week grading period. The students and their parents enjoyed the presentation of certificates and breakfast together. Congratulations to SGES Merit Roll Students, Thomas Baran , Dakota Chase , Lilly Darling , Logan Greene , Logan Jaquay , Michelle Kingsley and Mattison Wallin . Honor Roll students are Max Caudill , Cassie Gourley , Ashley Hall , Nevaeh Hamilton , Alex Roberts , Trystan Sandak , Destiny Snook , Catelyn Thompson , Emiley Wheeler and Aubrey Younger.
