Great woman

Great woman

Dear editor:

I respectfully would like to add a name to a few great women for Black History Month as appeared in Saturday’s edition. She is Hazel Johnson-Brown who died in Sept. 2011 at the age of 83.

My sister reminds me that Hazel sat on the front seat with me on our trip to Tredyfrin Eastown High in the 1940’s and occasionally ran her hands through my brush haircut.

Anyhow she became the 16th chief of the army nurse corp, the first to have a doctorate and the first black female general in the history of t he U.S. military. Knowing this fine lady as a neighbor and classmate, she is certainly worthy to be known as a great woman.
