Donald Loomis Zinger, 85, of Pleasant Township, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, February 24, 2014, at the John and Orpha Blair Hospice House. Donald was born April 6, 1928, in Titusville, PA, the son of the late Casper and Gretchen (Loomis) Zinger.
He served in the US Marine Corps from 1952 to 1954, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He had been employed by Thomas Coupling for several years; and later owned and operated Warren Kitchen Builders. During his career, he built over 100 homes, many in the Pleasant Township area. Donald was known to be a master carpenter, and one of his proudest accomplishments was building a cedar canoe. After retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and built furniture pieces and unique items for his family and friends.
He was a member of the North Star Lodge #241, for over 50 years, and the Eagles Club. Donald also served as a Supervisor of Pleasant Township for over 20 years.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jean Chambers Zinger, whom he married on January 14, 1950; two sons, Randy Zinger, of Warren, and Rodney Zinger, and his fiance, Rita Pace, also of Warren; four grandchildren, Tammi Zinger, and her fiance, Jon Nagurney, Mike Zinger, Scott Zinger and Vanessa Sweeny, all of Warren; four greatgrand children; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by three brothers, twins, Harold and Harry Zinger, and Boyd Zinger.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at Warren County Memorial Park, Warren.
