WRESTLING: Ike’s Head in D10 semis; 2 Wolverines in D9 semis

SHARON – Eisenhower sophomore Louie Head is in the District 10 Class AA semifinals after Friday’s round at Sharon High School.

Head (24-4), who qualified for the Northwest Region Class AA Tournament as a freshman, earned a first-round bye and then earned a 10-2 win in the quarterfinals over Grove City’s Chet Simoni.

Wrestling resumes Saturday morning and the top six in each weight class advance to next weekend’s region tournament at the same place.

All seven Eagles and Eisenhower’s Steven Haner suffered losses on Friday, but are not eliminated from the tournament. The top six in each weight class advance.

Youngsville’s Nate Lehman (1-1 at 106), Aaron Hoover (0-1 at 145), Zach Ishman (1-1 at 160), Jeremy Lyon (1-1 at 170), Stone Sivak (0-1 at 182), Austin Spear (0-1 at 195) and Austin Slocum (0-1 at heavyweight) will wrestle in the consolation rounds of the double-elimination tourney Saturday, as will Ike’s Haner (0-1 at 126).

CLARION -Sheffield’s highest seeds are in the semifinals after Friday’s rounds at the District 9 Class AA Wrestling Championships at Clarion University.

No. 4-seeded Doug Grubbs is 2-0 with two pins and in the semis at 145 pounds, and six-seeded Brian Fries 1-0, after a bye, and in the semis at 138.

Two-time regional qualifier Ricky Prosen is 2-1 and battling back – much like last season – in the consolation round at 126 pounds. A senior, Prosen has 90 career wins for Sheffield. Tanner Barr is also 2-1 and still alive, at 120 pounds.

The top four in each weight class advance to the Northwest Region Class AA Tournament next weekend at Sharon High School.

Kole Holden (10-6) is 0-1 and still wrestling in the consolation round Saturday morning.
