Winter trap

Kalbfus finished first ahead of Sugar Grove Sunday in the Penn York Winter Trap League at the Sugar Grove AmVets Trap Club, with 143 shooters in attendance. Sugar Grove is still in the lead for the second half.

Zack Wheeler (40) was the high sub-junior, Luke Gray and Michael McDunn (48) tied for high junior, and Stephanie Tutmaher (46) was the high lady. Denny Joy (47) was the high vet, Spear Proukou (48) was the high senior vet, and Jack Kostkas (45) was the high super senior vet.

The top five shooters are, currently: Michael McDunn 96.2, Colton Black 95.0, Kirk Decker 95.0, John Pearson 94.6, and Vern Brown 94.5.

Next week’s competition will be at Carroll Rod and Gun Club.

Warren’s junior varsity girls basketball team finished its season at 12-8 overall after a loss at Oil City on Saturday.

College news

Warren Area High School graduate Laura Penwell is a member fo the Messiah College women’s swim team, which won its first-ever Mid-Atlantic Conference championship, this past weekend, in the sixth year of the college’s program.

Penwell was part of the school-record-breaking 400-yard freestyle relay team that was seeded third at the MAC championships, but which won the event in 3:36.38.

Penwell was also part of thew winning 200 free relay, the second-place 200 medley relay, finished 9th out of 42 in the 50 free in 25.74 seconds, 6th out of 26 in the 100 fly in 1:01.51, and 8th out of 30 in the 100 back in 1:02.85.

Scholastic trap

A meeting of Warren Blue and Warren White Warren County Scholastic Trapshooting League high school club teams will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Warren American Legion upstairs meeting room.

All current and interested students who wish to shoot on either team must attend with their parents or legal guardian. Team rosters will be finalized at this time. The program cost, policies, practice and league schedules will be discussed. For information, call Dave Carlson at 757-8467.
