BOYS HOOPS: Winding down: Dragons end season with road win over Girard, Youngsville finishes with loss to Conneaut

GIRARD-Warren finished its season off with a win over Region 6-foe Girard on Monday night, 54-50, at Girard High School.

The District 10 Class AAA playoff-bound Yellow Jackets defeated the Dragons by a score of 45-35 in the first meeting between the two teams.

“In the first game, there was a two-minute stretch that really cost us. That’s how close we thought we were to them,” said Warren coach Jeff Berdine. “We made some adjustments and tonight did a great job on defense and executed our offensive game plan.”

In his last game in a Dragon uniform, senior Collin Fantaskey scored 10 of his game-high 17 points in the fourth quarter to help wrap up the win. Fantaskey went 6-of-6 from the line and Jacoby Passmore was 1-of-2 in the game’s final minute. Passmore finished as Warren’s second leading scorer with 10.

As a team, the Dragons committed just seven total turnovers.

“I always tell them, less than 10 and we have a good chance to win,” said Berdine.

Fantaskey finished with four assists and three steals, and Tanner Stanz had seven rebounds and four assists.

Warren finishes the season with a record of 11-11 overall and 6-8 in Region 6.

The Dragons had another big fourth quarter performance in the junior varsity game, as Ryan Skerda poured in 12 of his 19 in the final frame to defeat Girard, 50-46. The Warren JVs posted a record of 16-5 this year.
