Youngsville Area High School graduate Abel Robinault ran a personal-best 4:22.97 in the 1-mile run for California University of Pennsylvania this weekend in the Indianapolis Relay Open. He also competed in the 5,000-meter run, finishing 11th with a time of 15:13.03.
Slippery Rock University women’s track and field freshman standout Sabrina Anderson, a 2013 Warren Area High School graduate, won the five-event pentathlon with an NCAA provisional-qualifying mark of 3,387 points at the first day of the Youngstown State University National Invite on Friday, Feb. 7. The score is the best in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and ranks 20th among all Division II athletes this season. Along the way to reaching the NCAA standard in the pentathlon, Anderson also reached the NCAA provisional standard in the high jump, clearing 1.67 meters, according to Slippery Rock University.
As he approaches 100 career wins heading into Friday’s Section 1-AA Tournament at Union City High School, Youngsville senior Jaykup Durlin (14-2) continues to be rated as the top 220-pounder in District 10 Class AA and the Northwest Region, according to Dan Albaugh’s latest wrestling rankings released Sunday (www.districtenwrestling.com). Senior teammate Jeremy Lyon is rated fifth at 170 pounds, and Eisenhower sophomore Louie Head fourth at 152 pounds.
The Penn York Winter Trap League met at the Kalbfus Rod and Gun Club this week with Kalbfus taking first place with a team score of 333. Bob Faga shot the lone 50 and was the high vet for the second week in a row. Jack Kostkas (48) was the high senior vet and Dave Davies (45) was the high super senior vet. Stephanie Tutmaher (43) was the high lady, Michael McDunn (49) was the high junior and Ryan Bush (43) was the high sub junior.
Next week’s shoot will be at the Sugar Grove Trap Club. Sugar Grove is still in the lead for the second half of the season.
