BOYS HOOPS: Beast Mode: Sheffield’s Isenberg drops 27 in win over Eagles; Warren seniors start strong in rout of Kane

A big first half was enough for Sheffield to hold off Youngsville in a cross-county, non-league game on Thursday, as the Lady Wolverines improved to 6-15 with a 51-48 win.

“The girls did good,” said Sheffield coach Jaimie Ely. “They played tough all four quarters and dealt with (Youngsville’s) pressure well. That’s what we need to do to win games.”

After trailing by as many as 18 points in the first half, the Lady Eagles battled back into the game with 14 and 17 points in the third and fourth quarter, respectively. A last-second shot to tie the game from Karissa Cratty was off the mark, and Sheffield held on for the win.

Jen Isenberg led the Lady Wolverines once again with 27 points, and Tierra Hansen added 10. Jade Moore was 4-of-6 from the foul line in the fourth quarter to help put the game away.

Kennedy Cratty scored 19 and Karissa Cratty had 14 for Youngsville (7-11 overall, 4-5 in Region 3).

The Lady Eagles host Saegertown in a Region 3 matchup with playoff implications on Monday, while Sheffield wraps up its season on Tuesday at Johnsonburg.

Saegertown 42, Eisenhower 28

SAEGERTOWN -Eisenhower is 6-12 overall and 2-8 in Region 3 after a 42-28 loss at Saegertown.

For District 10 Class A playoff implications, it was a game they had to have, and for head coach Mike Logue, a game they should have had.

“Yes, to all those questions,” said Logue, whose Knights suffered through a 12-3 Saegertown second quarter. “We come out and play with these teams in the first quarter, but we go into a little bit of a drought here in the second quarter. We need to make sure we’re putting in a full game’s worth.”

After a big win over Youngsville on Monday, the Knights have lost two straight. They host Titusville in a non-region game on Saturday.
