Women’s strength program offered

A fun strength building women’s health program, “Healthy Women Strong Bones,” will be held at the Jefferson DeFrees Family Center. A required orientation for new participants will be Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. when medical information, proper weights, and class member’s expectations will be given. The eight-week program will begin Feb. 24 and continues twice a week on Monday and Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. through the week of April 14. Participants will start lifting one or two pound weights to help build muscle mass, improve balance, flexibility, bone and joint health, to reduce the risks of osteoporosis. The 16 classes will include nutritional information. Comments from past participants have said “I can do more work with less pain and have better balance.” “I have reduced my medications with exercise.””I sleep better.” The program is especially suited for those age 40 and older.

This program is part of Tufts University women’s health research. Certified instructors will be team teaching the class. Payment for the class is due after orientation. For more information, call the Jefferson DeFrees Center at 723-6350.
