Lady Lions avenge early-season loss; WCCS boys fall

Warren County Christian School split a pair of games with Christian Life Academy on Friday, winning the girls game by a score of 44-39 and losing the boys contest, 63-23.

“The boys played a very talented team; (Christian Life) is the best in the league,” said Lions’ coach Tom Jones. “The first quarter and a half was the best basketball they’ve played all season, they just couldn’t maintain that pace and it got away from us.”

Eric Sorenson led the way for WCCS with 14 points.

The Lady Lions avenged an early season loss to CLA with their win.

“Last time we played them, we got beat by 16, so it was a big turnaround,” said Jones. “It was just an outstanding all-around team effort. At the beginning of the season I said CLA was the team to beat. Getting that win is a big confidence builder and a good learning experience winning a close game”

Alyssa Kerr and Kaitlin Weidner scored 15 and 14 points, respectively to lead WCCS.

The Lions begin a stretch of three games next week with a matchup against Jamestown Bethel on Tuesday.
