WRESTLING: Eagles pin Wolverines

Less than 15 hours from the District 10 Class AA Team Duals at Sharon Area High School, Youngsville defeated Sheffield, 41-32, at Youngsville High School.

Youngsville led early on with pins coming from Austin Spear and Jaykup Durlin. Sheffield played catch-up for the rest of the match, eventually securing a lead after a decision from Tanner Barr (120), pins from Ricky Prosen (126), Brian Fries (145) and Doug Grubbs (152), and a technical fall by Kyle Holden.

Youngsville did come back to win in the end, with two forfeits and a technical fall win from Zach Ishman to secure the ‘W.’

“We wrestled hard, but we were a little flat tonight,” said Youngsville coach Scott Ishman, whose Eagles celebrated their senior night.

Youngsville senior Durlin was escorted to the mat by his teammates on senior night after losing his father in a fatal fire last week.

“I believe we wrestled well tonight, and the forfeits didn’t help our score,” said Sheffield coach Jack Rice.

Youngsville is now focused on getting some rest for the District 10 Class AA Team Duals at 9 a.m. against Reynolds at Sharon Area High School.

OIL CITY – Warren is 4-3 in Region 4 after a 57-18 win at Oil City.

“We thought it was going to be a close match going in, but the kids came through with a lot of bonus points,” said Warren assistant coach David Fehlman.

Trailing 5-0 to start his 106-pound match, Ben Weston eventually took the lead in a high-scoring match and then earned a third-period pin. It was the first of nine Warren pins, including Jacob Engstrom (113), Blake Ristau (120), Nick DeSimone (126), D.J. Fehlman (132), Collin DeLattre (138), Derek Reagle (182), Cody Gunn (195), Steven Crone (220), and Alex Streich (heavyweight).

“(Since a loss to Titusville), we are a little more focused and we’re definitely seeing that in the practice room. We’re gearing up for districts,” said coach Fehlman.

Oil City is 3-4 in region.
