Collin Fantaskey’s 32 points helped Warren to its third straight Region 6 win in dominant fashion, 80-62 over Harbor Creek Wednesday at Warren Area High School.

The Dragons avenged an overtime loss to the Huskies earlier in the year, and now sit at 8-6 overall with a 3-4 region mark.

“I thought this was a solid effort from us tonight,” said Warren coach Jeff Berdine. “(Harbor Creek) is one of the teams we’re pretty competitive with, and they got us in a close one up there. They hurt us inside the first time, but Jacoby Passmore was much more up to the test defensively tonight. He never let their big guys get established inside.”

Warren led by a score of 20-7 after one quarter of play and kept the Huskies at bay with consistant pressure on both sides of the ball.

“I always tell the guys we have to be able to reestablish ourselves in the second half when we build an early lead,” added Berdine. “Tonight, we came out and did that in the first three minutes of the third quarter. That’s the effort we’ve been looking for.”

Passmore and Tanner Stanz chipped in 17 and 13 points, respectively, to follow up teammate Fantaskey, who has averaged just over 25 points per game in Warren’s last six contests. Stanz and Fantaskey each had 10 rebounds, and Fantaskey added five assists.

The Dragons will look to even up their region record on Friday when they play host to Girard (4-2 and in fourth place in region). Warren sits in sixth in the region – with four typically making the playoffs, but the Dragons beat Harbor Creek, making the fifth-place Huskies 4-3 in region. Warren still has to play Girard twice due to a postponement.

Warren’s junior varsity team outscored Harbor Creek 18-9 in the fourth quarter to pick up a 44-38 win. Ryan Skerda led the Dragons with 21 points, including four three-pointers.

Sheffield improved to 5-14 with two games remaining, with a 53-47 win over Brockway at Sheffield High School.

The Wolverines fell by eight at Brockway earlier this season.

“It’s all effort,” said Sheffield coach Tony Richards. “Last time they outrebounded us like 37-14 or something. That was definitely the key this time, rebounding.”

Noah Heeter had 15 points and 19 of the team’s 43 total rebounds in this one.

“I think they are starting to believe in our philopsophy a little more,” said the first-year head coach. “Hopefully this is a building block (for our program).”

Richards said Adam Higby, who finished with 10 points, was 5-of-6 at the line, and the team 9-of-11 at the line, in the fourth quarter. Jimmy Vile had 10 rebounds in the win for Sheffield – at Ridgway on Friday.
