Howard Glen Elicker, 88, of Scandia, passed away on January 19, 2014 at Bradford Manor in Bradford, PA. Howard was born on July 17, 1925 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of the late Howard R. and Hulda Stewart Elicker.

Howard joined the Army Air Corps the day after he graduated from Penn Hills High School with his best friend, the late Tom Kristy. He served in World War II in the 12th Air Force, stationed in Italy. As a pilot, he flew multiple sorties in a B25 bomber in the European Theatre. He then had a very long and distinguished career in the Air Force Reserves, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a command pilot, a qualified instructor pilot, and a recipient of the award for Most Outstanding Aircraft Commander.

Howard was employed by U.S. Steel in Homewood, PA as a cost estimator. He later worked for Sheffield Container Corp., from which he retired. He enjoyed time at the family camp on the Allegheny River in Emlenton. His two loves, other than family, were flying and golf. He enjoyed golfing at Blueberry Golf Club, where he participated in a Senior League and the Industrial League. He was also an avid hunter, and was a member of the Circle 8 Square Dancing group and North Warren Presbyterian Church. Howard also had an incredible work ethic, and built his own home with the help of his friend, Tom, after having helped Tom build his house years before.

He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Kier Elicker; twin sons, H. Kreig Elicker of Russell and H. Kirk Elicker of Sheffield; two sisters, Jean Jacobs of Grove City and Virginia Flynn of Pittsburgh; and one brother, Harold “Dutch” Elicker and wife Shirley of Emlenton; three grandchildren, Michelle Anderson of Luton, England and Kurtis and Kiera Elicker, both of Warren and greatgrandson, Killian Anderson also of Luton, England. He is also survived by Mitzi Kristy, and her children Karen and Debbie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his best friend, Tom Kristy.

Friends will be received at Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penn Ave. E., Warren, PA on Thursday, January 23rd from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 24th, with Rev. Burfoot S. Ward, III officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Sheffield Cemetery.
