Free Throw Contest

All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are invited to participate in this level of competition and will compete in their respective age divisions for the 2014 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship.

The registration, contest, and awards will be held on Saturday at the Youngsville Elementary Middle School (YEMS) on 2nd Street in Youngsville. Participants are required to furnish a proof of age birth certificate and parents will need to sign a written parental consent form. Entry forms are available at YEMS and on the day of competition from 8:30 – 9 a.m. The contest will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 9:30 a.m. The awards ceremony will follow the contest and finish by 9:45 a.m., all before the scheduled games begin at 10 a.m.

The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually with some local winners having progressed from local, to district, regional, and state competition. All contestants on the local level are recognized for their participation in the event. Remember that a contestant may only participate in one council level sponsored contest each year, meaning that one can’t go to Tidioute, and then come to Youngsville to compete again. Ten champions will move on to the District level competition at Warren on Jan. 26. For additional information, contact Rick Hutley at 814-688-5000.

The Head Start class from Youngsville High School recently took a trip to Warren to view different buildings in the city. They toured the Warren Public Library and Warren County Courthouse. At the courthouse, Ron Farnham was their tour guide, showing them statues, both courtrooms, portraits of judges, and other features of the historic building. More tours of city buildings are planned for next month.

Hi, my name is Haillie Burrows. I’m 11 years old. I want to inspire other young kids like me to help their communities. I believe that helping others is the most important thing in the world. I donated a ham, some venison, and some canned goods to the Youngsville E.U.M food pantry program. I did it to help the less fortunate. They help around 38 families. I would like to ask if you can donate please too! My friends, family, the church, and I need you! Thank you!!

Pastor Rick Nelson and Caryll Clough of the E.U.M food pantry accepted the donation for the Youngsville E.U.M food pantry.
