Boni Waite Bowley, 66, of Sheffield, PA, passed away on January 13, 2014 as a result of complications related to a lengthy fight with cancer.
Boni was born Bonita Mary Waite on September 14, 1947, in Corry, PA to the late Robert J. and Victoria F. Wojciechowski Waite. While growing up in Corry, Boni was a member of the Corry High School Tennis Team, winning the City Championship before she graduated in 1965.
After high school, she moved to the Warren area and married for the first time. Boni worked at local manufacturing establishments, as well as in the pharmacy of Warren General Hospital.
In 1980, Boni married the late Frank W. Bowley and moved to Sheffield. After raising her family, she spent many years as a sales clerk at Tall Oaks Stores in Sheffield and then worked at Gayle’s Memories of Starbrick.
A devout Roman Catholic, Boni was a member of St. Anthony’s Parish in Sheffield. She served St. Anthony’s in a number of capacities over the years, including as a reader, a Sunday School Instructor, and as a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Boni was active in a number of organizations in Sheffield, while also serving as a breast cancer patient educator with the American Cancer Society.
In addition to crafting, Boni found joy collecting Boyd’s Bears Teddy Bears. While she was very proud of her collection, she received the greatest enjoyment from giving bears to her friends and family and from visiting the former Boyd’s Bear Country Store in Gettysburg, PA. For many years her visits to the DC area would include a visit to the Gettysburg battlefield and the Boyd’s store.
Her family and friends were the center of Boni’s world. She and Frank loved making trips to visit their son Ryan in Washington, DC, enjoying the museums and monuments. Boni was very active in the lives of all three of her grandchildren, attending many school events and other important activities. She frequently returned to Corry to visit her mother and sisters, and enjoyed attending the many craft and country shows in the area with her family and friends. For many years she assisted with the care of her lifelong friend, Jane Johnson of Warren.
Boni is survived by her sons, Scott D. Holcomb of Warren, and Ryan S. Bowley of Washington, DC and his wife, Christie W. Witzig; her daughterinlaw Debra Holcomb; her grandsons, Taylor, Zachary, and Kyle Holcomb of Warren; two sisters: Gail L. Kirsch and her husband Shawn of Russell and Terrie A. Gage of Corry; three brothers: Jerry P. Waite and his wife Young Hui of Warren, James R. Waite and his wife Deanna of Corry, and David J.
