GIRLS HOOPS: Knights lose region contest

Eisenhower fell short of its first region won on Monday night to Saegertown, 43-23.

“We started out well offensively, lost it in the second quarter, slightly got it back in the third, and lost it again in the fourth,” said Eisenhower coach Mike Logue, whose Knights are 0-4 in Region 3 and 3-7 overall. “We missed too many shots later on.”

Danielle Bradish and Kristen Wagner were Ike’s leading scorers and Holly Chapman and Kirsten Baran had eight and seven rebounds, respectively.

Saegertown is 2-2 in region.

Looking to improve their season, the Lady Knights will next be seen in action on Wednesday night at Sheffield High School.

North Clarion 66, Sheffield 38

CLARION Sheffield fell to North Clarion on the road on Monday night, 66-38

The Wolverines fell behind early, trailing 16-4 after the first quarter, but played much better the rest of the way.

“We let a quarter get away from us again in the beginning,” Sheffield coach Jaimie Ely said. “But the improvements are starting to show.”

Jen Isenberg led all scorers with 23 points, and also hauled in 20 rebounds. Mariah Fitzgerald also had a strong game, with nine points and 13 boards.

“If we can make sure we are playing four full quarters and making our foul shots, we will be able to start winning the games like I know these girls are capable of,” Ely said.

Clarion also won the junior varsity match, 40-8. Abby Cromwell scored seven of the Wolverines’ eight points.

The Wolverines (2-9) will play host to Eisenhower on Wednesday night.
