GIRLS HOOPS: Dragons move to 8-2

Warren’s girls basketball team is 8-2 overall after a 53-46 non-region win over Central Tech on Saturday at Warren Area High School.

“It was a fun game to coach,” said Warren coach Lisa Ruhlman, with the Dragons up 28-24 at halftime and leading by three after three quarters. “And I’m sure it was fun to play and watch, too.”

While Central Tech (6-7) is in the Class AAAA Region 7, Warren will move to Central’s region next season.

This time, sophomore D.J. Hahn finished with eight field goals and was 4-of-4 at the line for a game-high 23 points.

“We pulled away late in the fourth by chewing up clock and knocking down free throws,” said Ruhlman.

Alexa Bupp had nine of her 11 points in the second half and was 1-of-2 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter, in which Warren was 6-of-8. Paige Wilson was 3-of-4 in the fourth and Lizzy Marsh 2-of-2.

Bupp added 10 rebounds and five assists, and Wilson eight rebounds in the win.

“We had some key defensive stops, too,” said Ruhlman.

Mackenzie Boice finished with four steals.

Former Dragon Lexi Ednie had three points for Central Tech, after relocating to Erie.

“We came out, we battled, and this will be good prep when we face the rest of our region later on,” said Ruhlman, including hosting Mercyhurst Prep on Tuesday.
