WRESTLING: Eisenhower’s Head champ at Falconer

FALCONER, N.Y. – Eisenhower sophomore Louie Head remained unbeaten on the season, going to 4-0 this weekend to win the 152-pound class of the 14th Annual Patrick J. Morales Tournament at Falconer High School.

Host Falconer, coached by Eisenhower graduate Drew Wilcox, is unbeaten as a team, winning the team title for the second straight year.

“(Head’s) record is now 13-0 on the season, and wrestled some good matches; he looked tough,” said first-year Eisenhower coach Greg Gourley.

Head earned a 9-5 decision over Harbor Creek’s Matt Newara in the championship round for Warren County’s lone individual title.

Kole Holden was Sheffield top finisher – second at 106 pounds, getting pinned in the second period of the final by Southwestern’s Shane Hetrick.

“Kole was unseeded and knocked off the number-two seed, before losing to the number-one seed in the final,” said Sheffield coach Jack Rice.

In addition, Eisenhower’s Tyler Gourley (138) and Robbie Wilston (160) finished fourth.

Sheffield’s Brian Fries actually earned a 9-1 major decision over Gourley for third at 138. Sheffield teammate Ricky Prosen was also third, with a second-period pin at 126, and also Doug Grubbs with a third-period pin at 145.

“Kyle Holden fell one match short of placing, losing to the third-place finisher, 11-10,” said Rice.
