WRESTLING: Rockets top Warren

Warren suffered its second Region 4 loss of the season on Friday night, falling to Titusville, 36-30, at Warren Area High School.

The Dragons found themselves in a big hole early on and were unable to dig their way out of it, despite a strong finish.

Titusville jumped out to a quick 18-0 lead with a pin of Alex Westin (106) and decisions over Jake Engstrom (113), Blake Ristau (120), and Glyn Mahood (126).

Jason Peterson (132) was finally able to get Warren on the board with a 6-0 decision, and D.J. Fehlman (138) followed with a forfeit victory.

Three consecutive Rockets pins increased Titusville’s lead to 36-9, before Warren finished on a positive note with decisions from Dan Henry (170) and Cody Gunn (182), and forfeit victories for Derek Reagle (190) and Solomon Gross (220).

Alex Streich (285) ended the match with a thrilling 2-1 overtime decision.

“Even though we weren’t going to win the match, it was nice to see Streich battle through and win in overtime,” Warren coach Glenn Baldensperger said.

The Dragons’ record falls to 7-2 overall, and 2-2 in Region 4. Titusville has an identical 2-2 region record.

“We just didn’t wrestle our best tonight,” Baldensperger said. “We had a couple guys out of the lineup, and that never helps. We were fortunate to beat (Titusville) last time; I think our teams are evenly matched.”

Warren will be back in action on Wednesday, travelling to General McLane.
