GIRLS HOOPS: Lady Bulldogs grab 1st win

Tidioute’s girls basketball team earned its first win of the season on Thursday, 37-19 over Jamestown Bethel at Tidioute Community Charter School.

More significant, it was Tidioute Charter’s first girls basketball victory since Feb. 6, 2012, breaking a 23-game losing streak that included an 0-15 season last year.

TCCS’ first-year coach Jamie Hicks also earned her first win.

“It was a strong effort and what helped us was it wasn’t just one or two people trying to carry the team tonight,” said Hicks. “It is nice to see the smiles on their faces. It was an extra special night for Lakin Krouse, too, because it was her birthday. It was nice to get our senior Robbi Kightlinger a win, too.”

Tanya Krouse scored a season-high 16 points, Kightlinger had five steals and four assists, Allyvia Morgan three rebounds, three steals and four blocks, and Lauren Slack five rebounds.

“I think we came into this game with more confidence…,” said Hicks, “especially being our seventh game of the season. It’s a new offense… and we’re a young group – five kids out of nine are freshmen. Our senior doesn’t want to hear it, but this a rebuilding year. They are (getting better), every day. We’re just trying to build something. It’s very nice coming off a complete losing season last year.”

Tidioute (1-6) is at Youngsville on Tuesday.
