GIRLS HOOPS: Dragons win region opener

The Lady Dragons improved their record to 7-2 with a win in their first Region 6 game, defeating Fort LeBoeuf, 57-27, on Wednesday night at Warren Area High School.

Warren came out slowly, but would quickly take control, outscoring the Bison 34-15 in the first half.

LeBoeuf outscored Warren 7-6 in the third quarter, but the Dragons dominated the fourth quarter, 16-3.

“We were a little slow to start the game,” said Warren coach Lisa Ruhlman. “We came out a little flat, which I expected (after a lack of practice time), but then we showed up. We relied on each other. I thought it was a pretty good team game.”

D.J. Hahn was the leading scorer with 23 points. Paige Wilson added 15, and also hauled in 11 rebounds. Lizzy Marsh recorded five rebounds, Mackenzie Boice dished out five assists and Alexa Bupp added four assists of her own.

Warren’s junior varsity team also won big, 44-12. Maddie Loutzenhiser recorded nine points and Ashlee McClure added eight.

Commodore Perry 45, Youngsville 43

HADLEY – For the second time this season, Youngsville was unable to pull out a win over Commodore Perry, losing a 45-43 non-region game Wednesday.

“We were down five at the half,” said Youngsville coach Dave Becker, whose Eagles (3-7) fell to Commodore Perry by a score of 38-34 earlier in the year. “We came back and were right where we wanted in the second half. It came down to one possession here and one possession there. Our window of opportunity is closing on the postseason, so hopefully we can get a few wins here shortly.”

Kennedy Cratty led the way with 16 points for the Lady Eagles. Katie Chuzie hit four 3-pointers for 12 points, and Karissa Cratty added 10.

The Lady Eagles lost a shortened junior varsity game, 18-7. Ali Ishman scored four points, and Aspen Flinn had three.
